Hamilton and associates that appears in the November 5, 2008 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, statin use lowers PSA levels, and as a result may confound the detection of prostate cancer (CaP) in these patients. Statins are lipid-lowering agents in widespread use in the US. Several reports suggest that men on statins have a reduction in the risk of advanced CaP that ranges from 25% to 75%.
